Hello my name is Shelly Morey. I am the Owner of Sip and Dab and a local artist. I have been drawn to art since a very young age. I have earned two Silver Awards in Scholastic Arts, one in acrylic and one for watercolor. I was a finalist in the Cranbrook Institute of Science, Michigan Wildlife Art Awards Competition for an acrylic piece I painted of a frog and have also received a Certificate of Achievement from the Michigan Art Education Association for a piece that I painted in oil. I earned my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Savannah College of Art and Design where I was on a full Presidential Scholarship.
After graduating in 1998, I managed, designed and developed kids stationary products for independent and specialty markets in the United States with Colorbok Kids in Dexter, Michigan. There, I worked with the licenses of Blues Clues, Disney MGM, Barbie, Mattel and more while also painting and creating art for non licensed products. I then decided to get a feel for the corporate side of design and went to work for the Detroit Regional Chamber as a Graphic Designer, where I was able to design ads that ran in the Hour Magazine and design a Cover for the Detroiter Magazine. There, I also created marketing for Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Leadership Detroit and had many great experiences downtown Detroit in the early 2000s. In 2003 I decided to learn more in the area of Art Direction/Sales, then returned to Colorbok as a design Lead. Our team designed scrap booking products for value stores such as Walmart, Ekards, Joanns, Dollar Stores and more. My husband then chose to serve in the United States Air Force. We were stationed in Florida near Destin Beach where I freelanced paper pattern designs to vendor LI-Fung, in China. It gave me the ability to stay home with our second born son Kaiden, and then five year old, Connor. In 2007 we moved to Northern Michigan.
However, it has always been my dream to paint for work daily. In April of 2014 I began Sip and Dab a mobile paint and sip. This fun art night out in Northern Michigan is a great way of getting out with friends to try something creative together while exercising our brains in a new way. It has been a blessing bringing art into the lives of so many who have never thought they might be able to paint. We have (in some cases) created passions for painting in participants who have embraced it as a new talent.
My name is Lindsay Loznak, and I am a local artist and former middle school and high school French teacher. I am currently enjoying my role as one of the artwork designers as well as an instructor for Sip and Dab. My work with Sip and Dab has enabled me to express my creativity and still engage in my enjoyment of teaching – working for Shelly and being part of such a fun and growing local business is a blessing.
I learned to paint and be creative at a young age participating in programs such as Odyssey of the Mind and especially spending weekends at my grandparents where my grandma (a well-known artist in Battle Creek) passed on her talent and legacy of art, specifically painting. As I grew up, my parents cultivated my appreciation for art by teaching us to recognize the beauty of nature, Lake Michigan, and the world around us. Now as an instructor and designer for Sip and Dab, I love watching people succeed at something they never thought they could do and express themselves through art with little to no experience – I get to pass on an enjoyment of local beauty and an appreciation of art to someone new every class.
When I am not working, I enjoy cooking, traveling, visiting family, and any outdoor activity with my husband and son. Some of our favorites include spending time at the beach, hiking and backpacking, camping, canoeing, running, biking, or anything else Northern Michigan has to offer and in any season!
